The Sufis teach that all life is inter-connected, and Sukoon is well aware of its ecological responsibilities. The owner of the houseboat has long been active in working to preserve the local environment.
It is the first houseboat in Kashmir to be fitted with a bio-tank, which means that no waste is discharged into the lake. Plastic is banned on board.
All drinking water is purified by the latest method of reverse-osmosis, thus doing away with the need for plastic bottles that are creating such a pollution problem everywhere. Local and organically produced materials are used wherever possible.
These may seem small steps in a long journey, but Sukoon sees itself as the signpost of the necessary future direction in sustainable tourism.
